Six hectares, six pitches and fantastic surroundings. The Red Bull Academy, located next to the Red Bull Arena, is RB Leipzig's base for its talent pool. The facilities currently serve the Under-19, U-17, U-16, U-15, U-14 and U-13 players, enabling them to train and develop alongside the first team at Cottaweg.
On March 3rd, 2011, RB Leipzig signed an agreement with the Mayor of Leipzig, Burkhard Jung, for the leasing of the land. Just three weeks later, the first diggers and construction vehicles were in position removing the earth of the six hectares-site.
The next stage of the development was placing four grass and two artificial pitches as well as two specialist training areas. The RB Leipzig training centre was officially opened on August 14th, 2011. Back then, players and officials were housed in temporary accommodation spanning 720 square metres.
The construction of the Academy began in January 2014 (totalling 13,500 square metres in area). 18 months later, in September 2015, the first team and five youth teams moved into the Red Bull Academy for the first time.
2016 saw the addition of a 1,000-seater stand alongside the main training pitch, an outside workout area, speed football courts and a car park. An uphill sprinting area was also added.
250 male and female players across 17 youth teams currently feature for Die Roten Bullen throughout the season. RB Leipzig provide these youngsters with education - basic sports, schooling and social skills.
Cottaria is the place where our staff and employees can refuel every day. A place to socialise, enjoy the company (whether it's inside or outside), and take a break from your daily routine.
The grass at the training facility was seeded in the Heythuyse region of Holland and is of the highest standard. Underneath the grass lies a special turf-bearing layer to ensure peak growing conditions. The turf-bearing layer is around two centimetres and the lawn is two centimetres tall.
The grass is looked after by our dedicated and talented groundskeeping staff, who ensure the pitches are in optimal playing condition ever day.
A free car park with limited parking is located in front of the Academy.
The centre can be reached by tram (lines 3, 7, 8 and 15) by stepping off at "Sportforum Süd" or "Angerbrücke". From there it is just a 500m walk to the front door.
